Education

RAK is well-catered for when it comes to schooling. The RAK Academy follows the UK’s National Curriculum, and GEMS Westminster School’s programme is inspired by it. As its name suggests, the RAK American Academy follows the US system. Most international schools offer education to children from across the world, but use English as a first language.

Healthcare

There is no National Health Service for expats in Ras Al Khaimah, but there are some excellent healthcare establishments. RAK Hospital offers state-of-the-art facilities and has a good reputation amongst expats. Al Zahrawi Hospital and NMC Royal Medical Centre are longer-established and offer a more affordable alternative.

Shopping

RAK may not have the retail reputation that its near neighbour Dubai is famous for, but still presents a fabulous experience for shopping. The RAK, AL Hamra, and Manar Malls offer goods from internationally-renowned brands, alongside entertainment, cafes, and restaurants. 

Scenery & Landscape

Being less built-up than many parts of the Emirates, RAK is an outdoor paradise, set between the mountains and the sea. Its natural beaches are excellent for watersports, and the Hajar range has countless adventures for hiking, trekking, and climbing.

Leisure

Alongside an ample range of outdoor activities, RAK has great facilities for those with families. Two different waterparks can be found, and its uncluttered landscape is dotted with green spaces, playgrounds, and parks. Those with a head for heights will adore Jebel Jais Flight, the longest zipline in the world. There’s also the Wynn Marjan Island Resort and Casino, which is the largest foreign direct investment project in the emirate and set to open its doors in 2027. 

Culture

Ras Al Khaimah is steeped in history, and explorers will find much of interest in Al Jazirah Al Hamra, an uninhabited ‘old town’ that offers a glimpse into Emirati life prior to its oil revolution.
