Sheikh Hamdan Approves Master Plan for Jebel Ali Beach Development

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has approved the Master Plan for the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project, set to transform a 6.6 km stretch of beach into a premier recreational destination. The project emphasises environmental conservation and local wildlife protection. This initiative reflects Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision of establishing world-class public beaches in Dubai. Additionally, Sheikh Hamdan has approved the architectural designs, which seamlessly blend aesthetics with functionality to accommodate a variety of beach activities.

Eco-Tourism and Environmental Protection

The project offers unique services and amenities, promoting eco-tourism. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe turtles in their natural habitat. Measures will be implemented to ensure a safe nesting environment, supporting UAE’s efforts in marine life conservation.

Focusing on creating spaces rich in beaches, open areas, and recreational greens to improve residents’ and visitors’ well-being, Sheikh Hamdan emphasised Dubai’s commitment to enhancing urban experiences.

Expanding Public Beaches

The Jebel Ali Beach project is part of a broader plan to increase Dubai’s public beach length by 400%, incorporating new and improved beaches equipped with recreational, sports, and investment facilities as outlined in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

Key Features and Facilities

Mattar Al Tayer, Commissioner General for Infrastructure, Urban Planning, and Well-Being Pillar, mentioned the significance of the project within the Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary. The plan includes a 5 km sandy beach by Nakheel and a 1.6 km mangrove beach by Dubai Municipality. These areas will enhance the ecosystem and offer unique visitor experiences.

Key features include a 2 km swimmable beach, a 2.5 km diving area, viewing platforms, kids’ play zones, and sports facilities. Infrastructure will support seamless access with a two-lane road, parking for 1,000 vehicles, and tracks for cycling and running.

Three Distinct Zones

The beach will have three distinct zones:

  • The Pearl: A lively family beach with recreational facilities, restaurants, and a floating restaurant.
  • The Sanctuary: A haven for turtles with a focus on environmental conservation.
  • The Nest: An educational destination within the mangroves, featuring an environmental centre and conservation programmes.

Architectural Design and Investment Opportunities

The project’s architectural design draws inspiration from natural marine geometries, incorporating local materials. Investment opportunities include restaurants, leisure centres, and commercial kiosks to cater to beachgoers’ needs.

Broader Beach Development Initiatives

Dubai’s broader beach development includes Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 Beaches, extending 5.7 km in total. These developments aim to transform beaches into advanced recreational spots, featuring night-swimmable areas, cycling and jogging tracks, and extensive health and service facilities.

Enhancing Public Beaches

Dubai aims to enhance public beaches’ service levels by 400%, extend night-swimmable beaches by 56%, and significantly increase cycling and jogging tracks. The beaches will be equipped with advanced technology services, AI-driven rescue systems, and comprehensive monitoring for safety.

Dubai’s commitment to creating world-class public beaches is evident in the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project. With a focus on sustainability, innovation, and visitor experience, the project aims to make Dubai a leading global destination for beachgoers and eco-tourists.
