Wynn Resorts Secures UAE’s First Gaming License for Ras Al Khaimah

Wynn Resorts has begun construction on its new resort, Wynn Al Marjan Island, situated in Ras Al Khaimah. This large-scale development is a collaboration between Wynn Resorts affiliates, Marjan and RAK Hospitality Holding.

In a statement released on Friday, the company expressed excitement about contributing to the growth of RAK’s tourism industry. It also extended gratitude to the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) for granting the project a gaming license, acknowledging the trust placed in them.

Meanwhile, MGM Resorts CEO Bill Hornbuckle, speaking at the Skift Global Forum in New York City, shared that MGM has also applied for a gaming license. Their proposed project will be based in Abu Dhabi, and the application was submitted on September 19.

Set for completion in 2027, Wynn’s Ras Al Khaimah resort is projected to be a multi-billion dollar venture. Al Marjan Island, where the project is located, lies just a short distance from two major airports—15 minutes from Ras Al Khaimah International and 45 minutes from Dubai International. The island itself is approximately 65 miles from Dubai, the UAE’s largest metropolis.

This future destination will feature a gaming area, over 1,000 hotel rooms, convention spaces, retail shops, and dining options. Marjan, the master developer for properties in RAK, has been tasked by the government to enhance the emirate’s appeal as both a tourist and investment hub.

Craig Billings, CEO of Wynn Resorts, previously highlighted the prime nature of Al Marjan Island as an excellent backdrop for the company’s signature guest experiences. He described the setting as perfect for creating a unique resort offering.

Abdulla Al Abdooli, the CEO of Marjan, expressed his eagerness for the partnership with Wynn Resorts, citing their proven success in developing luxury resorts. He believes the expertise Wynn brings will help establish the new resort as a standout destination, significantly benefiting the local economy and boosting RAK’s appeal to leisure and business travellers, as well as the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector.
